The annual Rock ‘n Roll Marathon takes place today to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The event may cause confusion and possibly auto accidents for some drivers as roads will be closed and parking will be eliminated on some streets according to AM 600 KOGO in San Diego.
Events like this benefit society as a whole — because of the money raised — but can adversely affect drivers. Traffic in the area can increase, or a wrong turn by a driver taking an unfamiliar detour causes an auto accident or pedestrian accident that leads to injuries or wrongful death.

Over 30,000 people from all across the world will come together in San Diego to raise money to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in the annual Rock ‘n Roll Marathon scheduled for Sunday, June 6, 2010.
The races start at 6:15 a.m. on 6th Avenue near Balboa Park, goes through the Gaslamp Quarter, up Highway 163 through Mission Valley, along the east side of Mission Bay and concluding near Sea World. Runners have the option of participating in the full 26.2 mile marathon or the 13.1 half marathon.
Both races will cause traffic changes as road closures and detours will be set up by San Diego Police before the race and continue until about 5 p.m. If you plan to drive near the marathon, download the complete list of road closures at the Rock ‘n Roll Marathon’s website. Know your way before you head out this weekend.
Large fundraisers like these obviously serve a positive purpose in society because they generate much needed funds to support foundations looking for new treatments for life threatening diseases. Drivers and organizers of these functions need to play equal roles in preventing auto accidents caused by detours.
Our auto accident attorneys extend our support to all those involved and hope that mistakes won’t be made.
