Making a list, checking it twice, gonna find out which cars protect you and which cars do not for the new year, because the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety is comin’ to town to check up on products liability in automobiles.

It will be tougher for consumers this year to find a top-rated safety vehicle because a recent roof-strength test was required for rollover crashes in order to deem which cars are safe and which cars buyers should be wary of purchasing.  So far the number of top-rated cars has been cut from 94 models in 2009 to 27 for 2010.

Our firm’s car accidnet lawyers in San Diego think that more tests like this should be implemented into car testing to cut down the amount of personal injuries that can occur after an auto accident happens.  Roll-over accidents can cause spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries because passengers can often be thrown from the vehicle at high speeds.

The roof test was an addition to the already strict examination done by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in response to the ever increasing car accident statistics where motorists are personally injured in rollover car crashes.  Most the times these accidents lead to large amounts of pain and suffering, if not wrongful death when all is said and done. For 2010, only 19 cars and 8 sport-utility were recognized as “top safety picks” by the institute.  Here is a list of the approved models that have the top safety ratings:

  • Buick LaCrosse
