Paradise Ridge Winery in Santa Rosa, California has been sued by a high school graduate who says the winery led to the car accident that caused him personal injury as well as his friend’s wrongful death.
The individual in this case was a passenger in a car being driven by a classmate of his, a 19-year-old teen, when he crashed into a redwood fence near Sebastopol, California. According to details of the car accident, the individual in this case was allegedly served beer at a wedding reception hosted by the winery. A case of drunk driving allegedly caused the car accident.
Our car accident lawyers in San Diego know that drunk driving leads to thousands of car accidents every year, and that those car accidents could have been prevented with smarter decisions. Teenage drivers are even more vulnerable to the hazards of drunk driving because alcohol affects them a lot harder then adults. Teenagers don’t have the same experience with alcohol and depending on their size, alcohol’s effects are more dangerous when that teen is behind the wheel.
When the reception ended at the winery, the two teens got into a Subaru sedan and stopped at a 7-Eleven where one of them allegedly bought two bottles of Mike’s Hard Lemonade. The car accident occurred a couple of blocks away from one of the teens’ house the following morning.
Initial tests taken at the hospital showed the individual in question had a blood-alcohol level of .14 percent. The other teen, who is now 23, suffered serious brain injuries along with the other individual as a result of the car accident. Under the terms of the car accident settlement, the winery will pay $3 million, 7-Eleven will pay another $500,000 and the other teen will pay $105,000.
