If car drivers need another reason to be distracted, Sprint’s new car computer may be a car accident waiting to happen.

Recently, Sprint has found itself unable to sign up enough new cell phone subscribers, so it is trying to outflank rivals by renting out and expanding the excess capacity on its 3G broadband network to makers of various consumer gadgets.

Despite the ingenuity behind this new Sprint networking idea, Ford’s new Sprint network, the venture concerns our car accident lawyers.  Ford is putting in-car computers in some 2009 vehicles that will use Sprint’s wireless network.

Our car accident lawyers understand how major a problem distracted driving is and how many wrongful death car accidents they cause.  Most of the problems technology has had with distracted driving involves talking and texting on the cell phone, which takes the driver’s eyes off the road and at least one hand away from the steering wheel.

Once computers get installed, the problems will only grow.  With more people on the road staring at their computers and typing with both hands, the number of distracted driving car accidents may increase exponentially. The number of wrongful deaths as a result will also increase.

Our car accident attorneys wonder about that could happen to drivers of cars with computers installed with wireless networks in cars.  Is it really worth it for Sprint to increase revenues at the expense of innocent lives?
