As reported by Fox 5 San Diego, a crash near the holidays claimed the life of three individuals. Driver David Elmore, 29 and from Encinitas, was operating his Mercedes Benz in speeds up to 100 miles per hour on the wrong side of the road. While doing this, he hit a sedan with a La Jolla woman and man. All three people were killed as soon as the cars collided.
When the cars hit one another, the sedan was set on fire immediately. Although patrol officers had noted the car going the wrong way slightly earlier and began following the driver, it was too late to stop a serious accident from happening. The patrol cars lost sight of the car during their pursuit, and the driver slammed into the sedan shortly after. Another critical accident in the area, for which Life Flight was called to the scene, made it difficult for other patrol units to make an attempt to catch up to the speeding driver.
Sadly, this is the kind of negative outcome that can come from serious accidents involving both speeding and wrong-way driving. If you spot someone going the wrong way, it’s a good idea to call the authorities as soon as possible. This could actually help to prevent a deadly accident and could save lives.
Driving the wrong way, in combination with other factors like speeding, can lead to life-altering car accidents in San Diego. Do your part by following all road laws and refraining from behavior like drinking and driving.
