Recently, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety conducted crash tests for compact crossover vehicles.  Crossover vehicles are loosely considered a combination of a sedan and an SUV or mini-van.  The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety performed 3 different tests for each vehicle: front, side, and rear-end car accident impacts.

And for each of these tests, the motor vehicles were assigned ratings of good, acceptable, marginal, or poor.  Our car accident attorneys believe the safety of the driver and passengers comes first, so it is important to know which vehicles are least prone to car accidents.

Among all the vehicles tested, 4 vehicles received ratings of “good” for all 3 tests.  They are the 2009 Ford Escape, 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander, 2008 Nissan Rogue, and 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan.  The Ford Escape is also reportedly structurally identical to the Mercury Mariner, the Mazda Tribute, and the hybrid versions of these motor vehicles.  And therefore, these cars, although they were not tested, are theoretically just as safe in car accidents as the Ford Escape.

All 4 of these vehicles also received the Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.  To be a top pick, the motor vehicle must have electronic stability control to activate during detected skids, and all 4 vehicles were equipped with that technology.

Of course, no one can account for things on the road like poor weather, drunk-drivers, hazardous road conditions, or simply bad luck.  Therefore, make the smart move and get the best car insurance policy that you can afford.

As car accident lawyers, we are pleased to advise auto owners or to-be owners with information on the safety of any motor vehicle.  So if you are looking to purchase a crossover vehicle, choose from the ones mentioned above, and that may just decrease your chances of a car accident.
