Drivers on various freeways have to worry about getting into auto accidents from a weird cause.  Sure, you always have to worry about things like other cars, rocks, poles and trees, but here’s something you may never have considered: pellet gun fire.

Drivers warned of pellet gun fire on freeways.

According to details, a sniper with a pellet gun has been targeting cars on various freeways throughout the Inland Empire.  Three more cars had their rear windshields shot out bringing the total to over 50.

No auto accident injuries have been reported, but there is the obvious property damage as well as the threat of a car accident.  For instance, imagine you’re on the freeway and suddenly you hear a loud crash because your back window was just blown out.  In panic, you might swerve, make an unsafe lane change and lose control of your car.  This could definitely lead to a crash.

The three newest shootings happened on Friday on the San Bernardino Freeway (Interstate 10) between Singleton Road and Beaumont Ave.  Other freeway targets have included the Ontario Freeway  (Interstate 15), Pomona Freeway (60) and Riverside Freeways (91 and 215).

Authorities describe the shooter as “a sniper with a pellet gun”.  The sniper targets many types of vehicles on these freeways and has been doing so for the last few weeks.  California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers urge the public to be alert on local freeways.  If the sniper gets your back window, CHP says to get as much information as possible on surrounding vehicles (including license plate numbers) and pull over to a safe place and call 9-1-1.

Increased patrols have been going on, and police ask that if you have any information about the pellet gun shootings call the CHP’s San Gorgonio Pass area office at (951) 769-2000.
