The warm weather and numerous tourists that frequent many San Diego landmarks are both good indicators that summer is upon us.  The beaches have become more crowded, flocks of people are flooding to the ocean, restaurants are busier and gas prices are higher.

As more motorists drive on many California roadways will the amount of car accidents, like gas prices, steadily start to rise?   As car accident lawyers, we understand that more accidents happen during the summer months of July and August and the rate of fatalities too, is higher during that time of the year.  Summertime always brings with it an increase in not only gas prices but the amount of drivers on the roads which leads to car accidents that cause personal injury such as whiplash and even wrongful death.

California again had the dubious distinction of having the highest gasoline prices in the continental U.S. over the last week, the Energy Department said.  Meaning that the good weather will most likely have the same effects of bad weather, namely, causing accidents on California roads.

Tight supplies helped kick the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in California up 13.5 cents to $2.891, according to the Energy Department’s weekly survey of filling stations.  That was still $1.542 below the year-earlier price.

California helped push the national average higher.  The average price of a gallon of gasoline in the U.S. was $2.624, up a dime but still $1.415 lower than it was at the same time in 2008.  Analysts predict that pump prices won’t surge as they did last year to more than $4.58 a gallon in California and above $4.11 a gallon nationwide.  Prices are nearing their peak for the year, barring some major supply-crimping emergency, analysts said.

“Prices may go a bit higher, but we are very close to the summit,” said the  director of retail pricing for the Oil Price Information Service in Wall, N.J. “I really didn’t expect prices to go even this high.”

As car accident lawyers, we believe that while gas prices may rise, obeying traffic laws and driving safely are ways to limit the amount of car accidents.  Sometimes auto accidents cannot be avoided, despite driving safely, and we understand that a loved one or you may suffer many personal injuries, so make sure that you and your car have the best insurance policy in the event of a crash.
