Sweet dreams aren’t usually made of this.

According to the North County Times, the California Highway Patrol arrested an alleged drunk driver after she ran from police and tried to fool authorities by pretending to sleep in a Vista apartment complex.

When it comes to drunk driving, you shouldn’t do it at all.  If you make such a careless mistake and get caught doing it, pull over!  Don’t try to get away from authorities by starting a police chase that can cause a car accident caused by the reckless driving involved.

CHP arrests drunk driver who fled the scene of DUI charges & hid in bed pretending to sleep.

A 24-year-old suspected drunk driver that allegedly evaded California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers was ultimately caught after he tried to pretend he was sleeping in his apartment to avoid charges.

At about 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday June 23, a CHP officer saw a Honda Accord weaving and making unsafe lane changes on the eastbound side of Highway 78 in Escondido.  When an officer flashed his lights to pull him over, the driver exited Nordhal Road and could have caused a car accident as he was running red lights and running stop signs on his way to Rock Springs Road.

When the alleged drunk driver approached West Mission Avenue, the driver got out and ran into an apartment complex.  A female passenger was interviewed to find out where the driver was, and Escondido police helped the CHP form a perimeter around the complex.  Officers were told that the driver’s mother lived in the complex, and that’s where they found the drunk driver pretending to be asleep in her unit.

The suspect was taken to the Vista jail on charges of felony evading, obstructing arrest and driving under the influence of alcohol.
