The Chrysler car making company has issued a recall stating they will recall over 24,000 cars and pick-up trucks over a possible design defect that can cause brake failure.

The majority of the products liability recall filed to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration applies to 2009-2010 Dodge Ram pick-up trucks as well as the 2010 Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Nitro and Avenger, and the Jeep Commander, Liberty and Grand Cherokee.

Our San Diego personal injury attorneys  know that many mistakes are possible when it comes to constructing a car, but if these defects are found, the companies responsible should issue recalls as soon as possible to prevent personal injury or wrongful death.  A car’s brakes are one of the most vital components.  If your brakes are bad or don’t work, car accidents become deadly because the higher rates of speed can cause more damaging injuries or can turn to fatal car accidents.

The cars and trucks with the brake problem were built with an improperly formed or made with a missing part in the braking system.  “This could result in brake failure without warning which could cause a crash,” Chrysler said in a letter.

The defective part was first discovered at its Toledo North assembly plant back in November.  In early December, an employee experienced complete brake failure when testing the vehicle at Chrysler’s truck assembly plant in Saltillo, Mexico.  When Chrysler investigated, they found the same part wasn’t installed in the truck.

No car accidents or personal injuries have been reported as a result of the brake problem, and our San Diego firm’s personal injury lawyers are pleased to see that this recall was issued before situations could have gotten worse.  Driving a car with faulty brakes is no way to drive a car.  With all of the ways that a car accident can happen, you need every bit of help you can get to prevent getting into one and saving yourself from injury or wrongful death.
