San Diego’s 10 News has reported that the drunk-driver (DUI) involved in a Carlsbad accident that took the life a 9-year-old girl last summer has been sentenced to four years in state prison.

Our firm’s car accident attorneys in San Diego have been following this case ever since last August to see what the outcome would be for the man accused of drunk-driving and causing the wrongful death of this young girl in a fatal car accident.

There were tears in the court room as the judge heard the young girl’s grandparents recall how much they miss their granddaughter and the driver in question emotionally told them he was sorry for the auto accident he caused that took the young girl’s life.

The man, who was 23 at the time of the DUI accident, had been dating the young girl’s mother for close to three months and had just attended a memorial service with the girl, her mother, and her 3-year-old sister.  It was around 1 a.m. when traffic started to slow down on Interstate-5 near Carlsbad, but the man in this case did not react in time and tried to swerve to the right, his car hitting a big-rig on the side where the little girl was sitting.

The little girl was rushed to the Rady Children’s Hospital, but died from her children’s injuries shortly after arriving.  Others involved in the accident came away with minor to moderate injuries

The blood alcohol-content (BAC) level in Wright’s system was estimated estimated to be .17 to .18, but a judge of the Vista Superior Court lightened his sentence because he had no prior convictions.

For the car accident attorneys who work at our San Diego firm, this is a sad case with no easy resolution.  He is getting punished for his mistake because not only did he take the life of a young girl, but the laws of our country recognize that DUI accidents are preventable and want to enforce them so that hopefully others do not follow in their footsteps.
