Drugs and speeding led to a deadly nine-car accident on Saturday, January 3, 2008 in Berwyn, Illinois, while driving under the influence (DUI) landed another man in jail after a wrongful death car accident.
Authorities are saying that a 34-year old slammed into several automobiles while speeding at 85 to 120 miles per hour. Berwyn Police say that he tested positive for the hallucinogen PCP and was DUI of it during the deadly auto accident. One man, 58, died after his car crashed into a tree as a result of the auto accident caused by the other driver’s speeding and DUI.
Our firm’s San Diego car accident lawyers believe it is important to understand that DUI is not simply limited to drunk driving. Driving under the influence of both illegal and legal drugs is a major cause of car accidents, many which result in major injuries and wrongful deaths.
In an unrelated case, a 48-year old was DUI of marijuana and Valium when he caused an auto accident that killed a 69-year old woman and seriously injured her husband back on April 5, 2006 in Dupage County, Illinois. The man was sentenced to six months in county jail after pleading guilty to aggravated drunken driving.
Usually when we talk about DUIs, we are talking about drunk-driving. An equally dangerous situation is caused when people drive under the influence (DUI) of drugs. Illegal drugs like marijuana can alter your perception, while hallucinogens, such as PCP, are doubly dangerous.
The San Diego car accident lawyers at our firm want you to always remember that when given a prescription, to check the warning labels as some advise against driving or operating heavy machinery while using them. When in doubt, have a friend drive you somewhere.
That’s what makes cases like these so tragic — DUI accidents are always preventable.
Two men got behind the wheel after doing drugs, and both ended up causing wrongful deaths because of car accidents. Two people would be alive today if they had made better decisions. Would you want that on your conscience?
