According to a recent survey by Insurance Quotes, auto insurance claims can hike you premiums by as much as 44%. According to a comparison from a last year’s data, that’s as much as a 3% increase. In order to determine this, the researchers in the study looked at insurance quotes using hypothetical drivers between someone who had never filed an auto accident claim and someone who did. There are many different things that can impact how much a claim will influence your insurance premium such as the type of claim, whether you were at fault or not and the cost of the claim.
The increases in premiums also varied by state. In California, for example, a claim of at least $2000 could increase your insurance premiums by as much as 78%. When compared with Maryland drivers, however, these individuals only faced as much as a 21% increase.
