Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has stopped a partnership with the Century Council.  The two organizations had been fighting to stop wrongful deaths from drunken driving car accidents.

MADD argues the Century Council is weakening its campaign to stop drunken driving.  The Century Council is a nonprofit organization funded by liquor makers such as Diageo PLC — the company known for Guinness beer, Captain Morgan’s Rum and Smirnoff Vodka.

Our firm’s San Diego auto accident attorneys know the benefits of organizations like MADD.  They are constantly informing the public about the dangers of drunk driving.  An alliance with an organization like the Century Council who is funded by alcohol makers creates a conflict of interest.

MADD, a nonprofit organization based in Irving, Texas, said the Century Council has slowed its efforts by opposing state laws requiring harsher penalties for people convicted of drunken driving for the first time.

DUI car accidents can cause many different personal injuries.  Drivers who are drunk behind the wheel have diminished reflexes, instincts and driving skills.  Those interferences can lead to car accidents that cause spinal cord injuries as well as traumatic brain injuries like concussions.

The car accident lawyers at our San Diego firm believe that drivers who get behind the wheel of a car under the influence of drugs and alcohol are irresponsible and must be punished if their irresponsibility leads to a car accident causing personal injury and wrongful death.
