A recent report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that it will be investigating several motorcycles made by Harley-Davidson after numerous incidents involving brake failure without any warning. The bikes involved in this investigation are those produced between 2008 and 2011 with antilock braking systems. The traffic safety regulator decided to move forward with an investigation after receiving 43 complaints, two reports of injuries and three crashes.
Brake failure on your bike might put you at increased risk of a serious injury. You could even cause a crash that involves other vehicles and their passengers. Keep an eye on the maintenance of your bike as well as any recall notices to avoid accidents and lawsuits.
The NHTSA, however, has not yet revealed whether or not these complaints could be caused by the owner’s failure to change the brake fluid on the bikes. If you have recently been involved in an accident as a result of someone else not paying attention or driving under the influence of alcohol or breaking road rules, you may be eligible to file a personal injury lawsuit. Consulting with an attorney as soon as possible is the best way to protect your interests.
