When buying a new car, there are probably many things that you look for. How does it ride? Does it have fancy cup-holders and a GPS and is it in your favorite color? These are all very important things to look for in a new car, but the first thing that we — as car accident lawyers — look for in a new car is whether or not it is rated high in preventing car accident injuries.
When it comes to safety, the 2009 model Audi Q5 and Volkswagen CC are rated by the Top Safety Choices by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Both the Audi Q5 and the VW CC received good test results in frontal offset (head-on collision) test results, rear car crash protection/head restraint ratings and side impact test results. The IIHS regards a good result as the best on a scale which includes acceptable, marginal and poor (in order from better to worse). Neither automobile received a score from the IIHS on roof strength (rollover car accidents) test results. The IIHS also provides a full list of their Top Safety Picks for 2009 (click “See 2009 winners”). This is the perfect guide for anyone looking to purchase a new car and hoping to avoid getting injured in a car accident.
While there are, and should be, many different things that you must consider when purchasing a car, we — as auto accident lawyers — urge you to make sure that safety is near the top of that list. Automobile accidents happen every day and that is unlikely to change anytime soon. With that in mind, just remember that it is always a good practice to drive an automobile that rates highly in collision safety.
Car accidents can happen to anyone, so is it not a good practice to do all you can to ensure that — if you do get into an auto accident — you minimize any personal injury and prevent a wrongful death?
