This may be hard to believe, but there were 70,000 reported pedestrian injuries in 2007 alone.  Our San Marcos pedestrian accident lawyers know that means someone is run over by a car at least once every eight minutes.

In recent San Diego car accident news, a woman was seriously injured after a suspected drunken driver ran her down in a local grocery store parking lot.  The woman — who was walking with her husband in a San Marcos Market parking lot — was struck by the suspected drunken-driver when he backed up into her.  She was then drug under the car for nearly 40 feet before the driver drove away, fleeing the scene of the auto accident.

The woman, who was taken to the hospital, suffered significant internal injuries as well as injuries to right arm, back and ribs.

The driver of the car — a man, 27, of San Marcos — is facing several felony charges including suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol causing serious injury, hit-and-run and evading arrest.

For any pedestrian accident attorney this news story is disheartening, but luckily no one was killed.  Drunk-driving often times causes the deaths of many innocent bystanders and if the driver of the vehicle had simply not drank and then drove this accident could have been avoided.

By making smart choices with our social life and driving behavior, we can prevent drunk driving accidents from increasing in our neighborhoods.
