The San Diego Police Department might be doing street sweeps today, but make no mistake, they have no brooms or dust pans. Instead, they are looking to clean up East County of drunk drivers.
As part of a massive police sweep in East County, 750 outstanding warrents for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol are going to be served by the SDPD in East County.
Our car accident lawyers in San Diego know how dangerous it is for someone to get behind the wheel of a vehicle if they have had just one drink. Drunk drivers have a higher chance of getting into drunk driving accident where personal injuries or wrongful deaths can be the end result. Usually, if motorists are luckly enough to be alive after a drunk driving car accident, they can have spinal cord injuries or traumatic brain injuries, sometimes leaving them paralyzed for the rest of their lives.
That’s why we applaud the efforts of local law enforcement for taking DUI warrents seriously in our community.
Using officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) — along with the El Cajon and La Mesa police departments — the Sheriff’s Department started the police sweep at 6 a.m. and just 15 minutes later, several of the drunk-drivers were caught and brought in to answer for their DUI crimes.
The SDPD booked all offenders into the county jail where they will most likely face higher penalties than what they would have if they had just complied with police orders the first time. Of all the warrents being served, there are 150 misdemeanor violations for driving under a suspended license and reckless driving.
