Medications are meant to cure the common cold or illness that a loved one or you may suffer from.  We trust and purchase the products that are placed on the shelves in local pharmacies, but what if those same products meant to cure one ailment actually caused a more severe personal injury?

The San Diego personal injury attorneys know new drugs are being produced and sold to consumers every year.  All new drugs have their side effects, and those side effects need to be told to patients who are receiving the drug as part of a medical treatment.

The Food and Drug Administration has released a statement warning consumers to stop using certain Zicam nasal cold remedy products, saying they can cause users to lose their sense of smell permanently.

A study conducted for Zicam found that it has received more than 130 reports since 1999 of patients losing their sense of smell from its Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs and Zicam Cold Remedy Swabs (kids size) products.   The defective products have been linked to products liability related injuries such as the long-lasting or permanent loss of smell called anosmia.  In some cases, the loss of smell occurred after the first dose.

The FDA has issued a statement telling consumers that they should stop using the products immediately.

Our firm’s San Diego personal injury lawyers, we know that new drugs cause personal injury and wrongful death every year.  New drugs should always be tested and side effects must be told to consumers before dangerous drugs are given to patients that can result in harmful side effects leading to personal injury or wrongful death.
