Whenever you get behind the wheel, there’s a chance that you could get into a car accident.  Whether it’s due to fog, rain or even design defects many car accidents just cannot be avoided.

But unfortunately many car accidents — that can be avoided — happen everyday.

Our firm’s car accident lawyers in San Diego know that drunk-driving is one of the top causes of auto accidents, but we believe that it is also one of the most preventable causes of automobile accidents.  Tragically in recent San Diego car accident news, a 17-year-old Torrey Pines High School student was killed and another teenager was critically injured early when the car they were driving in went off the road and rolled over.

The teenage driver was speeding northbound on La Granada near Rambla de las Flores, which is a two-lane road by the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club, when the crash occurred.  The teenage driver failed to turn around a curve and instead coasted into the other lane.  Then the car went off the road — crashing through bushes, trees and a wooden split rail fence — before ending up back on the road and rolling over.

After the fatal auto accident, the 17-year-old teenage driver was taken to Juvenile Hall and charged with felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.  The driver of the car, as well as two other passengers, walked away from the auto accident.  Unfortunately, two other passengers — both of whom were not wearing their seatbelts — were not so luckly.  One was killed and the other suffered a traumatic brain injury.

You might be asking yourself the same thing our attorneys are asking: why did this have to happen and what can be done to put an end to all future drunk driving accidents?

Our Rancho Santa Fe car accident lawyers are disheartened by this tragic news because a sober driver or even a cab toll could’ve prevented a fatal car accident that caused catastrophic injury and wrongful death.  How many more innocent lives have to be lost until we all learn that it is not safe to drink and drive?
