A pedestrian accident involving a taxi cab in downtown San Diego has sent two people to the hospital, according to San Diego 6 News. Though the condition of the injured persons has not been released, the personal injuries do not appear to be fatal.
Our San Diego car accident lawyers and this firm want to remind you that pedestrian accidents often happen because people crossing the street look to the left, then to the right, but not behind them. This accident, however, occurred in a crosswalk and investigators are still trying to piece together the exact cause of the car accident.
Taxi cab injures two tourists in a pedestrian accident in downtown’s Seaport Village.
Witnesses say that the pedestrian accident occurred around 10 a.m. on June 22, 2010 on the 800 block of North Harbor Drive shortly after a pair of pedestrians got off of a tour bus at the Seaport Village downtown.
“I heard a racing of an engine and I saw two people get hit,” described one man. “The lady spun and fell to the ground and the guy fell off to the side, and I went over to see if she was okay.”
Reportedly, both pedestrians were in the middle of a crosswalk when a speeding cab allegedly struck them and knocked them both to the ground. One man is debating this claim, however: the driver of the taxi cab.
According to the cab driver, he approached the crosswalk very slowly and only proceeded through it once he thought the coast was clear. The moment he saw both of the pedestrians fall to the ground, he stopped his vehicle to offer assistance and help them.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and administered medical treatment to the two people who were hit, then transported them to a hospital for further care. Police showed up as well and spoke with witnesses, but no arrests have been made so far in this accident.
